Gear Review: Marmot Limelight 3 Tent

Product tested:

Marmot Limelight 3 tent

Best uses for product:

Camping – I have used the Limelight 3 for car camping so far, but I would defiantly use it for backpacking also.

What you used the product for:

Car camping on Massanutten Mountain in Virginia
Car camping at Hammonasset Beach State Park

Favorite aspect of the product/special feature:

The ease of putting up the Marmot Limelight 3 tent has to be the best aspect by far. We did not get down to Massanutten until 3:30AM after a 7+ hour car ride from Connecticut. Extremely groggy and half asleep my friend and I had no problem putting the tent up. There was no fumbling around with poles or trying to figure out how to attach anything. The color coded press-in inserts made attaching the tent to the poles a breeze. We probably could have staked it out a little better, but for 3:30AM it did the trick.

A few short hours after going to bed I awoke to the wind whipping around and cold, damp temperatures outside. I did not want to go outside but I was there to take on the GORUCK Nasty Obstacle Course. Sure enough while we were gone at Nasty it rained for a few hours. When we got back to the camping area many participants found the items inside the tent got wet. The Limelight 3 on the other hand kept everything we had inside our tent dry. I had even left my stove and a thing of instant coffee in the vestibule area and they were protected and dry. Many people packed up and went in search of hotel rooms. It probably isn’t a coincidence that many of the tents still left standing for second night were Marmots.

How it fits:

While the Limelight 3 is a three person tent we just had two of us in the tent for our trip to VA. The two of us fit comfortably along with 3 bags of gear and clothing. We could have fit our third friend, but she decided to go to another tent and ended up with a wet sleeping bag the second day. We had originally planned on staying in another tent but due to rain in the forecast and getting in so late I decided at the last minute to bring the Limelight 3 along. I’m very happy with that choice. Thank you to Jason Cote and the Velocity Sales Group for letting me put their tent to the test.
